[At this point, two sounds have become fairly regular ones for Rory: the loud banging sound of the minotaur charging into the door, and the goblin trying to scrabblescratch its way back in through the window. So when the banging stops, Rory tenses immediately, straining for sounds, and therefore literally stumbles backward a few paces when he hears Amy outside.
